Rotary Family Health Days

The Rotary District 9350 asked all their Rotary Clubs to help at the free Rotary Family Health days in April 2014. They provided under leadership and guidance of June Webber from RC Waterfront an RFHD Training Workshop at beautiful Intaka Island Eco-Centre in Century City. Anneliese Brandt and Marlis Grünthal from RCamKap attended the workshops to qualify for the Rotary Family Health Days on 3rd and 4th day of April in joint efforts with our friends from RC Hout Bay.

In the Community Hall Iziko Lobomi at Imizamo Yethu township, the core vital services included,  HIV testing, Counselling and Referral, Hypertension, Diabetes, TB Screening and Referrals; as well as deworming and immunisation of the little ones. The Hout Bay Clinics helped with these tasks and Vitamin A was supplied, too.

Anneliese and Marlis were sitting at the registration desk and completed the Registration Sheets for each individual or family grouping that entered the site for services. On the first day about 300 people attended, followed by about 150 the next day. These were lively two days, especially for the children, as many of them came both days just for the fun of it, and were drawing pictures and playing together. The Eye-screening clinic then took place on Tuesday, the 22nd April 2014.

The 2014 Rotary Family Health Days were held throughout South Africa in over 140 sites and sponsored by the Coca-Cola Africa Foundation, South African Department of Health, CDC, and USAID. Media partners included SABC, Caxton, YFM, Media 24 news and Independent Newspapers in the Western Cape. The programme was also run in Uganda, Nigeria, Ghana, Swaziland and Lesotho through April 2014.
